Singer, songwriter, and acoustic guitarist Martha Tilston is a one of my favourite live acts of the past few years. Her modern English folk songs speak from the heart - life's simple pleasures and turmoils expressed with beautiful intimate honesty. Joining Martha for this gig at the Ram Jam Club in Kingston upon Thames were some of her friends from the Wupadupa collective.
This shoot was something of a learning curve for me, being my first real-world use of the Canon 10D camera I'd purchased the previous day. The simple lighting was atmospheric but low-level, and the venue layout restricted me to the very front of the stage, or right at the back of the auditorium with no tripod.
